Welts - Use of Connectors

Back

Where it is necessary to butt two ends of the welt together,
the use of a connector will eliminate any gapping
as the welts expand and contract.

The most common use of connectors is:
On the Dash, and around the Sunroof.

The 'connector' is nothing more than a
short length of a nail with the head cut off.

Try different sizes of nails for the best fit.

"Ring Shank" nails have ribs on them,
these grip very well.
I've found it easiest to press the cut off end
into the welt with pliers,

Then press the sharp end into the other end by hand.
Once pressed together the seam disappears,
and will not open in the future.

When installing the welt it may be
necessary to trim the 'spline' in some areas,
especially for tight corners.
