Hog-Ring Install Instructions

 Back

Hog-Ring Basics:
Hog-Rings require special
Hog-Ring Pliers.

These pliers have a groove
molded in that holds the hog-ring.
Pliers are spring loaded to
hold the ring in place.

The hog-ring has pointed ends
to poke through the attachments.

Vocabulary:  Hog-Ring
Hog-Rings are like big staples,
used to attach auto upholstery
to the foam and frame.

To hog-ring 'Listing Strips':

Poke the hog-ring through the
listing at the very bottom,
to capture just the plastic edge.

Vocabulary:  Listing Strip
Listing strips are used to under the
upholstery to attach it to the
seat foam, this gives the upholstery
a "sucked-in" 3 dimensional look.

The Listing Strip should be
fully extended.

This allows the upholstery to
"Float" above the seat foam,
this will minimize wrinkles.
See how the Listing Strip
is fully extended.

Close the hog-ring ONLY
until it forms a circle.

Do Not crush the
hog-ring flat.
 >  INSTALL TIP :  <

A small amount of cotton padding
can be added to molded voids
in the seat foam
to lessen wrinkles.
When using Hog-Rings to
attach outer edges of the upholstery
to the frame
(such as under the rear seat bottoms):

Capture the welt sewn to the edge.
Poke through the material
just above the welt.

Do Not poke the welt,
Do Not damage the thread.

Vocabulary:  Welt
Welt is an extruded plastic product
used in auto upholstery. Often referred
to as beading or piping.
