 Headrest TV Install

 In a nutshell you will:
 1. Remove the headrest upholstery.
 2. Cut a recess into the foam.
 3. Mount the TV frame.
 4. Re-Install the upholstery.
 5. Snap in the TV screen.

 6. Run the Audio / Visual cables.

Before you even start  !  :
Drill a hole in the headrest post so you can insert a cotter pin. Once the headrest is on the seat, insert a cotter pin. This will prevent a thief from removing your headrest TV:

To fit a TV between the
PT Cruiser headrest seams I recommend a TV
NO LARGER THAN
7 (seven) inches.

With the upholstery removed:
position the TV frame,
outline the position with a marker.
Use a razor knife to cut down into the foam
the depth of the TV frame.

Then cut & remove sections
to the same depth.
Trial fit the TV frame until properly seated.

Spray contact cement onto the foam
and the back & sides of the TV frame.
 > Easy Tip <
It helps to position the TV frame while the glue
is still wet (you can move it around).

Once the contact cement has 'set'
press the frame down and STICK the foam
the the sides of the frame
for a flush fit.
Install the headrest upholstery.
Close the bottom and position properly.

Caulk mark the edge of the upholstery.

Cut the upholstery (roughly) so you
can access the inside.
Remove any upholstery foam.
Spray contact cement onto
the upholstery flaps and inner frame sides.

Trim with a razor to fit.
Find the TV cable exit point in the frame,

Poke a large screwdriver through
the foam to near the headrest post.

This is where the TV cable will exit.
Press in the TV screens.

Feed the TV cable through the exit
point of the frame,
through the headrest foam,
and 'park' it under the upholstery flaps.
(for connection to the car later)
Once in the car you will need
to run the A/V cables:

To run TV cables:
The Driver seat is not a big deal,
run the TV cable to the console under the seat.

The "Flip & Fold' passenger seat is,,,
Here is how I ran the TV cable
so the seat flips without damaging the TV cable:

First a test was run using string.

From under the upholstery,
Go on top of the upper hinge,
then behind the lower hinge,
exiting under the track.
Here is a close up view.
When on top of the upper hinge:

Cut a cardboard 'plate'
to fit inside the trim cover,,,

Then place the TV cable on top of
the cardboard plate,

but under the trim cover.

This will protect the cable when
the seat is folded.

From the upper hinge,

run the TV cable behind the lower hinge,

there is a gap in the hinge mechanism.
The TV cable will exit from behind the lower hinge,

to the outside,

through a gap between the hinge and the track.

Place wire loom over the TV cable to protect it.

With the seat cushion removed,

cable-tie the TV cable to the recliner cable.

Put wire loom over the TV cable
where is will exit over the inboard track.

Once exiting the seat,
provide enough of a 'loop' in the TV cable
to allow forward & aft travel of the passenger seat.

Tuck the TV cable under the edge of the
console, and run it towards the dashboard.
Here is a general view of the TV cable,

1. from the headrest under the upholstery

2. over the upper hinge

3. behind the lower hinge

4. under the seat cushion

5. and exiting the inboard side.

(it was not cable tied yet in this picture)

Connect the cable to the headrest by
running the cable outside the headrest mount
and up into the headrest.

Don't forget a cotter pin
to foil thieves.
