Fixing Loose Listing Wires

 Back

 1. There is a "Listing Wire" buried in the foam,
you hog-ring the upholstery 'listing strip' to these wires.

Sometimes the Listing Wire will come out of the foam.
(don't worry, the fix is below)

 Tip:
CUTTING the old hog-ring instead of twisting it
will help prevent the wire from coming out of the foam.

 2. Shown Here:
The Listing Wire has come out of the foam.

 3. If the Listing Wire  is rusted or broken:
Replicate one from a wire coat hanger.

  Tip:
You can get wire coat hangers at a drycleaner's.
 4. To secure a loose Listing Wire :
Poke a piece of coat hanger down through the foam,
from the top to underneath the seat,
to pull strings down through the foam.

 Tip:
Use pliers to make a loop on each end:
one loop to thread string through,
the other so you don't poke yourself.
 5. Tie strings to the Listing Wire , make a knot.
Make the knot in the middle of the string, you want TWO loose ends.

Strings should be about 2 feet long,
when knotted in half you will have 1 foot on each side.

 Tip:
Anything synthetic will last, do not use cotton.
   Shoe laces work well.
 6. Tie enough strings to the Listing Wire .
       (3 strings shown here)

Pull the strings down through the foam with the coat hanger...

 7. Until all strings are on the bottom side of the foam.
        (3 strings shown here)

 8. Pull on the strings to secure the Listing Wire back to
it's original position on the top of the seat.

Tie the strings and make a knot.
Use a piece of cotton padding (included with kit)
to keep the knot from passing back through the foam.

 9. Done.

 10. If the foam has many rips...
you can tie the strings to a piece of coat hanger
on the bottom of the foam.
